  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring (gel-based)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup red velvet cake crumbs (from the cupcake centers)
  • 1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 12 tbsp red food coloring (for a vibrant, glossy red hue)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 34 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 23 tbsp milk or heavy cream (adjust as needed)
  • A few drops of ivory or peach food coloring (for skin-tone effect)
  • Candy fangs or small dots of red vegan gelatin (for puncture marks)
  • Red syrup or edible red gel (for 'blood' drips)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. In a bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, along with vanilla extract and red food coloring.
  3. In another bowl, whisk flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, alternating with buttermilk.
  4. Stir in baking soda mixed with vinegar; fill muffin tin two-thirds full with batter.
  5. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow cooling completely.
  6. For the filling, mix red velvet cake crumbs with sweetened condensed milk and melted butter until smooth; add more food coloring if desired.
  7. Hollow out cupcake centers and fill with the creamy mixture.
  8. Prepare skin-tone buttercream frosting using softened butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth; frost cupcakes generously.
  9. Decorate with candy fangs and drizzle red syrup for dramatic flair.
