Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups frozen cherries
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 3 ounces cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cherry filling by combining frozen cherries, sugar, cold water, and cornstarch in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat until thickened, then cool.
  2. Activate yeast by mixing warm water and yeast in a small bowl; let it sit until frothy (about 5 minutes).
  3. In a large bowl, combine whole milk and granulated sugar; add the yeast mixture and eggs. Gradually stir in bread flour and salt until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, then place it in a greased bowl to rise for about an hour.
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread softened butter over it, and add the cherry filling evenly.
  6. Roll up tightly from one end into a log shape; slice into equal pieces and place them in a greased baking dish.
  7. Let rise again for another 30 minutes before baking at 350°F (175°C) for about 25–30 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. While baking, prepare the frosting by beating together butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and enough milk to achieve desired consistency.
  9. Once baked, drizzle frosting over warm rolls.
