Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 black tea with vanilla tea bag
  • 1 vanilla bean (split)
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs (beaten)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F. Grease muffin tins or line them with muffin liners.
  2. In a medium pan over medium heat, melt the butter with the black tea bag and split vanilla bean until fragrant. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, sift together flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the beaten eggs, buttermilk, pure vanilla extract, and cooled butter mixture.
  5. Make a well in the dry ingredients and gently fold in the wet mixture until just combined—avoid overmixing.
  6. Spoon the batter into muffin tins and bake for 5 minutes at 425°F. Then reduce the temperature to 325°F without opening the oven door and continue to bake until golden brown (15-25 minutes). Let cool on a wire rack before serving.
