Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of brioche or challah bread (1214 slices)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk (or almond/oat milk for dairy-free)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (or half-and-half)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (or brown sugar)
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Cut the brioche or challah bread into thick slices and arrange them in a greased baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  3. Pour the custard over the bread slices and press down gently to ensure they soak up the mixture. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and set in the middle. For extra crispiness, broil for an additional couple of minutes while monitoring closely.
